About Us
Vision
Our dream is to see Christian families engage their children in every area of life, shepherding them into godly morals, right values, and true knowledge that leads them to God and fits them for life.

Mission
Our task is to enable parents to legally and effectively take charge of their children’s education - to encourage them to grow, develop, and blossom into everything God created them to be.
Legal Designation
Gateway is recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education as a Category IV, church-related school. This means that children in TN who are enrolled in Gateway are legally covered for and in compliance with mandatory school attendance laws.

Our Story
It all started in 1982 when Dr. Leo Crofford founded Gateway Christian Schools. His vision was to create a school that not only prepared students academically, but also fostered a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Not long after, a group of parents approached Dr. Crofford, proposing that they enroll their children with Gateway while teaching them at home. After due consideration and prayer, their request was granted, and Gateway’s umbrella program for homeschoolers was begun. Dr. Crofford is remembered as a pioneer in this movement.
From these small beginnings, Gateway now operates its Total Homeschool (Umbrella) Program, Extension Program, and Campus School, serving thousands of students in Tennessee and Mississippi, as well as other states. Based on years of experience, Gateway Christian Schools has become a trusted and reliable support to thousands of families in their homeschooling endeavors. By enrolling with Gateway, homeschool families are legally covered for compulsory attendance in Tennessee, have official school records, and receive, upon graduation, a TN-state recognized, high school diploma. Our graduates have been accepted at Harvard, West Point, and other prestigious institutions of higher learning.
As a Christian school, we believe that the most important aspect of a child’s education is spiritual. Accordingly, we uphold the God-given authority of parents over the education of their children. The goal of our umbrella program is to enable Christian parents to teach and direct every aspect of their children’s education, training, and moral development.
